Your children could be eligible if:
- They are age 18 or younger
- They are Los Angeles County residents
- They meet certain income requirements
Los Angeles County Free or Low-Cost Programs
Medi-Cal: This program provides health insurance for low-income children ages 0-19 living in Los Angeles County. Most families do not have to pay for services. If families have a higher income and do not qualify for free services, they might be required to pay a share of cost. Children with satisfactory immigration status receive full-scope or comprehensive services and children without satisfactory immigration status are eligible for emergency services only.
Healthy Families: This program provides low-cost health insurance for children ages 0-19 who do not qualify for free Medi-Cal because their income is too high. This program requires children to have satisfactory immigration status to apply.
Healthy Kids: This program provides free or low-cost health insurance for children ages 0-18 who do not qualify for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families. Some families do not pay for premiums and some pay monthly premiums of either $4 or $6 per month. Co-payments are $5 for most doctor visits. This program does not look at the immigration status of the child.
Child Health and Disability Prevention Program: This program provides free preventive services for children ages 0-19 at CHDP providers. This program does not look at the immigration status of the child.
California Children�s Services: This is a program for children with certain diseases or health problems. Through this program, children up to 21 years old can get the health care and services they need. Children will be connected with doctors and trained health care people who care for a child�s special health care needs. This program does not look at the immigration status of the child.
NOTE: For any of the programs listed above, it is important to remember that the parent�s immigration status is not taken into consideration when applying for their children.
